The Minister of Energy and Mining of Serbia, Dr. Petar Škundrić, put the refurbished transport system - electric conveyor belts 2,473 meters long - in operation yesterday (September 14, 2009) in the copper mine in Majdanpek. This new system is three times cheaper than the previous transportation of ore and barren land by truck.
Minister Škundrić and the CEO of Bor-based Combine, Blagoje Spasovski, said to the press that the Government of Serbia had invested 500,000 EUR in that project. This system will be used for transportation of copper ore from the strip mine to the closed ore crushing system in Majdanpek's mine.
Putting of this system in operation will accelerate production of copper concentrate in the flotation of Majdanpek's mine.
This transport system was put in operation in Majdanpek's mine in 1989, and it had been functioning excellently until year 2002 when it was turned off due to a serious malfunction.
