Doctor's rap warns about new flu

A New York doctor has a shot at rapping on U.S. national television about how to avoid swine flu.

John Clarke, a 38-year-old family physician from Long Island, calls his music “health hop,” and has been using rap to teach children about health issues since 1997.

He speaks at medical conferences and schools, always ending his lecture with a live performance.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, swine flu is more likely to infect people between the ages of 5 and 24.

- I know health hop is ideal for the age group that has been having the highest rate of infection - Dr. Clarke said.

He is one of 10 finalists in a competition sponsored by the federal Department of Health and Human Services for best public service announcement on the H1N1 virus. The winner of the competition will receive $2,500 and the winning PSA will be aired on national television.
