JTI had new hall for purchase of tobacco built in Senta - 150,000 USD worth of investment

Company "Japan Tobacco International" announced that it had invested 150,000 USD in construction of new hall for purchase and storage of raw tobacco in the factory in Senta.

According to the announcement, the new hall at 1,000 square meters has been built according to the global quality standards.

Company JTI has started purchase of this year's tobacco crop in Serbia, and it has purchased 450 tons of "virginia" tobacco" to the date. .

The company's plan is to buy another 1,350 tons of "virginia" tobacco and about 950 tons of "berley" tobacco". Total of about 2,300 tons of tobacco will be produced for JTI, which is 15% less than last year's production.

Company JTI is purchasing "virginia" tobacco, with bonuses, at average price of 2 EUR per kilogram.

According to the announcement, that price is lower than the one offered to farmers in 2008 and 2007 because the Ministry of Agriculture of Serbia has revoked the premiums for tobacco.
