New platform for responsible public finance management in Serbia presented

The Embassy of Sweden and the United Nations Development Program presented a new platform for responsible public finance management in Serbia, the UNDP announced.

– Over the next two years, we will work on strengthening the rule of law, the implementation of European regulations and standards in the field of public finance, with a simultaneous contribution to economic growth – said the head of the development cooperation department at the Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade, Ola Andersson.

The new platform is developed within a two-year project worth USD 3 million, financed by Sweden and carried out by the UNDP. This project is a continuation of Sweden's support to Serbia in achieving more responsible public finance management on its way to joining the EU.

– In cooperation with national and local partners, we will contribute to improved budget planning, upgraded tax administration services, increased tax revenues, more efficient public procurement procedures and increased transparency in public finance management – said Francine Pickup, the resident representative of the UNDP in Serbia.

As said, the project will strengthen the capacities of internal auditing in the public sector and contribute to an increase in the number and the quality of external auditing reports.

The new platform will enable the introduction of budget portals for local parliament members in 20 towns and municipalities, in addition to the current 10, and further connect local self-governments and civil society organizations in order to ensure efficient spending from local budgets for citizens' initiatives.
