Renovation of Pionir begins – New air conditioning and ventilation to be installed

The long awaited reconstruction of the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall, popularly called Pionir, began on Friday, June 21. The works will be finished by the end of September, so that the hall would be ready for basketball tournaments in October, announced the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic.

The event was attended by the member of the City Council Filip Marjanovic, the secretary for sport and youth, Dragana Belojevic, and the director of CRS Tasmajdan, Milan Novovic. Vesic said that the City of Belgrade had invested EUR 2 million in the reconstruction of this facility and that the capacity would increase from 6,300 to 8,000 seats.

– The hall will get a new floor, hoops, toilets, ventilation, air conditioning and lightning. There will also be new seats, and the whole will be more comfortable, while retaining its current proportions. The project will be completed by the end of September. The reconstruction will be carried out in line with FIBA standards, which will make the hall suitable for international tournaments – Vesic pointed out, Beoinfo reports.

The chief city urban planner, Marko Stojcic, said that the hall’s entire interior was being reconstructed as well.

– Architecturally, the hall will remain the same, but the interior will be fully changed in line with modern trends. All the infrastructure will be replaced. After the reconstruction, we will start arranging the space in front of the hall, which will feature a bust of Aleksandar Nikolic – Stojcic pointed out.

Milan Novovic said that he was pleased that, after three years of preliminary works, the day had finally come for the reconstruction of this hall to begin.
