U.S.Steel is laying off 205 employees

“U.S.Steel” company, based in Smederevo, will lay off another 205 employees on September, 22nd, with adequate compensations. Yesterday (August, 26th, 2009), the company concluded the program for resolving of excess number of employees as announced by the Independent Union of metal workers in the Factory.

The Union announced that the final number of excess workers was made, after a discussion of representatives from all Unions and the management, which made an analysis.

Independent Union of metal workers stated that “the sun is rising again”, as the company plans to bring back a five days working week starting from September, 1st.

The Management decided to introduce again the five days week because their production is getting bigger and both high ovens are working, so they could complete taken obligations towards the Steel factory of “U.S.Steel” in Kosice, Slovakia.
