Sombor’s public utility company, “Vodokanal” has started works on replacement of the main pipeline from the water factory in Jaros to the round ring around Sombor boulevards, of over 2 km long. These works are done as a part of donation-credit program through the German KfW bank. The value of this investment is around 450.000 euros, and if everything goes by predicted dynamic, the works will be finished by the beginning of November.

According to the words by Strahinja Sljukic, C.E.O. of JKP “Vodokanal”, the city will be getting a new distributive line which will improve the water quality, as the present pipeline dates from 1961, as one of the oldest part of waterway installations in the city, which results in occasional blurring of drinking water.

The new pipeline is going through Arhidjakona Stefana St. and Branko Radicevic St.. Residents of those streets will also have usage from the works, as Branko Radicevic St. residents will get new connectors, while Arhidjakona Stefana St. residents will finally get a possibility after many years to have their street asphalted. Besides that, existing knots will be reconstructed and new one will be build, for better network management and for better quality of the drinking water.

Mr. Strahinja Sljukic says that only during July, of this year, 330.00 cubic meters of drinking water have been produced and delivered, and those quantities completely satisfy the needs of the citizens and commerce in the city. However, as every utility company in Serbia, Sombor based “Vodokanal” is also having trouble to collect the payment of anyway cheap drinking water, and yet it is still trying to maintain the quality of their service.

The Province is saving the sewage

With the means from Provincial Fund for capital investments, new sewage network has been done in Sombor’s outer city and village areas in Bukovac and Centrala. The households in those areas can now apply for connection to the sewage network, run by “Vodokanal” company, and the price for the new connector is around 35.000 RSD. Besides the possibility of 8 monthly rates payment, “Vodokanal” is also offering to Sombor citizens a 5% discount for the entire sum paid at once.
