A dynamo bicycle which produces electricity for the charging of smart phones and the running of a radio and a lamp by having its pedals turned has been set up at the Knowledge Park at the Regional Center in Nis. It was made by mechatronics students at the School of Electrical Engineering “Nikola Tesla” in Nis.

Turning the pedals starts up the dynamo generator, which charges the lithium-ion battery, which in turn powers the radio device integrated in the handlebar, the phone charger and the lamp.

The dynamo bike uses a DC engine with 300-W permanent magnets with a maximum of 20 A. Depending on the speed at which the pedals are turned, the voltage varies between 0 and 18 V.

By learning through this and other exhibited items at the Park, the students go through a scientific research process, requiring additional intellectual engagement. This allows them to ask questions, do research, engage in critical thinking, solve uncertainties and reach a solution together with their teacher.

The preparation of the exhibited items has been enabled by the Center for Promotion of Science in Belgrade, through a category 3 public call – Conceptual design of interactive items at science parks, the Regional Center of Nis says on its website.
