Can TurkStream be extended to Slovakia?

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic talked to Slovakian Economy Minister Peter Ziga about cooperation in the field of energy, as well as the TurkStream gas pipeline, which passes through Serbia, and the possibility of having that gas pipeline extended to Slovakia.

After the meeting with the Slovakian minister, Antic told Tanjug that they had discussed the new situation regarding the gas supply in the Western Balkans, but also Central Europe and the entirety of the continent, as well as new projects.

– We talked about the continuation of TurkStream and the section which goes through Serbia to Hungary and the possibility of having the gas pipeline extended to Slovakia. We also talked about other projects and agreed that everyone’s goal should be to secure the supply with gas of the entire region and the entire Europe – Antic said.

The Serbian minister also said that the cooperation with Slovakia in the field of energy was based on projects pertaining to renewable energy sources in which Slovakian companies are involved and added that they had agreed at the meeting that the cooperation should be intensified in the next period.

– What we defined as common priorities and what we will work on more in the upcoming period is energy efficiency, where Serbia will try to use the Slovakian model – Antic pointed out.

He added that Serbia would continue cooperating with Slovakia in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and the improvement of the total “energy mix” in Serbia.

Antic said that Slovakia was Serbia’s friend and that it provided support to it in many important issues, including the question of Kosovo and Metohija.

The Slovakian minister said that energy was the field in which Serbia and Slovakia could cooperate very well and added that he had had a very productive and constructive conversation with Antic, where they talked about the gas industry, using renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

– In the gas industry, Slovakia has been a very important transit country in the past 10 years when it comes to the gas pipeline from Russia through Slovakia and we want to remain an important player in this field – Ziga said.

He said that his country used hydro and solar energy and energy from biomass and added that it had made great progress regarding energy efficiency in the preceding 20 years, but that it was also ready to share its experiences with Serbia.
