In the first phase of the investment, a line for the production and processing of plastic was installed and 25 workers were employed, and the plan is to install another two production lines and double the number of employees in the upcoming period. The reasons why they picked Subotica are energy costs and skilled workforce, among other things.
– Another very important thing for us is the high level of knowledge. The average education level in Serbia is very high. In general, we have good infrastructure. Subotica is well positioned and well connected by road to all parts of Europe – said the CEO of Ondaplast Balkan, Marco Fontana.
Ondaplast has thereby joined other Italian companies in Subotica, which employ around 2,000 workers. There are 70 Italian companies operating in Vojvodina, employing more than 11,000 people.
– These are things we should be happy for. Creating new jobs, increasing the living standard of our citizens, it's something we're all striving for – said Mayor of Subotica Bogdan Laban.
– This only confirms that Subotica is the driving engine of development in Serbia among all local self-governments – emphasized the vice president of the Provincial Government, Ivan Djokovic.
The Italian Ambassador to Serbia, Carlo Lo Cascio, pointed out:
– We work in Serbia, for Serbia and with the Serbian people.
The trade between the north Backa and Tisa regions and Italy amounted to USD 125 million last year. With the arrival of Ondaplast, which is a brownfield investment, considering that they bought the former Metro, conditions have been created for the sum to be even larger.
