The Serbian company Dunav Serv Shipping, which has rented a boat from a German owner, recognized Apatin as a place where it could find a crew for its cruise ships. They were not wrong, as they now employ workers from this municipality on all positions – the manager, the receptionist, housekeepers, cooks, waiters and boat mechanics.

– We plan to employ a captain and a boat crew as well – announces Boris Masic, the company's representative.

eKapija's interviewee is also the president of the German association “Adam Berenc” from Apatin. The cooperation started after he organized an arrival of Danube Germans to Apatin with the boat owner from Germany on two occasions.

– The result is that we have founded a company, rented a boat and employed our fellow citizens. The owner has three cruise ships, and we rented the one which operates the Passau-Bratislava-Budapest-Esztergom-Vienna-Duernstein-Passau route. The boat travels to the Danube delta three times a year – Masic adds.

The guests who use these services are from Germany exclusively. According to the announcements of the president of the municipality of Apatin, Milan Skrbic, cruise ships should start docking at Apatin from 2020. This is confirmed by Boris Masic:

– This year, the guests are supposed to arrive in October. After we repair the dock, we will be able to start planning the arrival of our boats, but also boats of other companies.

This cooperation has opened the possibility of launching nautical tourism in Apatin, because, according to our interviewee, the tourism on the Danube is not developed at all.

– Development requires quality programs that would motivate boat owners to include Serbia in their offer. Guests are very demanding, and if we don't offer quality programs, we will remain a blank spot on the nautical tourism map – Masic says.
