Instagram to shut down Direct

Instagram has decided to officially shut down its messaging app Direct, devised as competition to Snapchat.

The users will be notified that their chats will be automatically transferred to the basic Instagram app.

The Instagram team will no longer be developing this app, but start implementing Direct features into the main Instagram app. Also, the new features slated to appear in Direct can now be expected to be implemented in the main Instagram app.

With the shutting down of Direct, Facebook is left with two messaging apps, WhatsApp and Messenger.

Direct was launched as a separate app in late 2017 (it was available within Instagram from 2013) in Android and iOS versions in certain countries (Chile, Turkey, Israel, Portugal, Uruguay and Italy).
