Foreign currency savings increased by 104.4m EUR in July

- Foreign currency savings of Serbian citizens grew by 104.4m EUR in July, reaching 5.14 billion EUR - the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) announced.

According to the announcement, saving deposits in July daily grew by average of 4.5m EUR.

During the first seven months of this year, foreign currency savings of citizens were increased by total of 374.8m EUR, 227.5m EUR of which were deposited in the banks in June and July.

That shows that, during the last two months, foreign currency savings of citizens returned to the level of monthly and daily growth rate from the pre-crisis period - said people from NBS and added that banks in Serbia had started to feel the effects of the global financial crisis in September 2008 when people had decided to withdraw their saving deposits from the banks.

In the last quarter of year 2008, after the beginning of the global economic crisis, the citizens of Serbia withdrew about 1 billion EUR worth of foreign currency saving deposits from the banks.
