Fiat Kragujevac to start producing SUVs in two to three years?

Italian media have been reporting that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) might start producing a range of new cars, an electric Fiat 500, an extended version of Giardiniera, a new Panda and Tipo SUV. The latter should be produced in Kragujevac, where the annual production of Fiat 500L is not sufficient to fill the factory's capacities. The model might be made official in the upcoming months, and the production might start in two to three years.

By introducing a B-segment SUV, Fiat would enter the most active market and the market where the most vehicles are sold. That's why many manufacturers have already launched or are planning to introduce SUV models. Fiat would thereby also join the efforts to implement new technologies, such as hybrid and microhybrid engines. The testing of the hybrid version of Fiat 500L has already begun and the car should appear the market in the upcoming period.

The media also report that a seven-seat variety of Tipo SUV could appear as well. The new SUV would be based on Tipo SW. It would be 10 centimeters longer than 500X, which is 4.25 meters long. The price would be more affordable than that of 500X, which currently costs EUR 15,000 and up at a discount in Serbia.

The introduction of this model would fully engage the factory in Kragujevac, keeping all the jobs, Italian media write.
