The new IMF Mission is arriving to Belgrade next week and will stay in the Serbian capital for two weeks.

Representatives of the IMF will meet with the Serbian finance minister, the governor of the National Bank of Serbia and other relevant ministers and officials.

Several big topics are on the agenda, among them the possibility of raising pension and salaries in the public sector, which should be expected in late 2019 and early 2020. Related to this, plenty of attention will be paid to the new model of calculating pensions, which will come into effect in 2020 and directly affect the pensions of a total of 1.7 million people in Serbia.

– There are several options on the table, and two are being considered seriously. The first is based on pensions being directly affected by the growth of the inflation, which is currently at 2% y-o-y. Under the second model, in addition to the inflation, the GDP also affects the pensions. The only question is to what extent each of these parameters influences the growth of pensions and this should be the subject of the conversation – a government source told Blic.
