MALI: National stadium to be built in 2.5 to 3 years, negotiations with Ikea and Kaufmann to come to the complex in progress

Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali has announced that the construction of the National Football Stadium in Surcin will start very soon and that it should be completed in two and a half to three years.

According to the announcements by the Football Association of Serbia, the project will cost 50 to 70 million euros.

– The entire concept should be called Stadium City, which entails a lot. The stadium will feature exhibition shows, areas for cultural events and concerts, aquaparks, but also a technology park, which entails the arrival of large retail chains – Mali said in his interview with Blic.

The national stadium, according to the minister, will bring a twofold benefit to Serbia.

The first is the promotion of sports and the development of sports infrastructure, because, as he says, he sees Serbia as the host of the World Cup, the Champions League and the Europa League. The second is developmental, considering that Serbia will get new commercial and residential units with the construction of the national stadium.

The minister says that the funds for designing the stadium have already been set aside from this year's budget and that they are currently negotiating with Ikea and Kaufmann, which, as he points out, are very interested in coming to the complex.

– There will also be plenty of commercial space and an entire residential unit – Mali said and added that these would all be private investments, which the state would not subsidize.
