The Director General of Mining-Smelter Basin (RTB) Bor, Blagoje Spaskovski, said yesterday (July 20, 2009) that he expected that Copper Smelter would be modernized in three years, as well as that the new factory of sulfur acid would be built in that town.
After the meeting with the Vice President of Canadian engineering company "SNC Lavalin", Tim Smith, in Bor, he said that the modernization of the smelter would result in "greater exploitation of copper" and prevention of pollution.
- "Lavalin" has offered us "oto-kumpu" technology that guarantees good exploitation of copper and sulfur-dioxide. That technology has been positively estimated by the expert from RTB, professors from the Belgrade-based Technology-Metallurgy Faculty, Technical Faculty in Bor and the Mining and Metallurgy Institute - said the Director General of RTB.
Spaskovski said that "SNC Lavalin", one of the best companies for drawing plans for smelters, should finish the feasibility study for modernization of the Smelter within the next four months.
The Minister of Economy of Serbia, Mlađan Dinkić, announced earlier that the state would invest 130m USD in construction of new Copper Smelter, based on the freight loan.
