She told Politika that there were no news regarding the choice of the location for the construction of the factory.
She has confirmed, the daily writes, that her statement from two weeks ago is still current. She said at the time that they were still defining special requests and looking into potential locations in Eastern Europe.
According to earlier unofficial information, Volkswagen is choosing between Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and North Macedonia.
As said, it would invest EUR 1.4 billion in the facility it plans to open in 2023, employ 5,000 workers there and produce 300,000 cars a year.
German Ambassador to Serbia Thomas Schieb said several days ago that there were no news regarding the potential arrival of Volkswagen to Serbia and that the decision had not been made at the moment. He added that the decision would be made by the company itself.
– I hope that the decision will be in favor of Serbia. I don't know when the decision will be reached, but it would be a continuation of a positive trend – Schieb said at the time.
According to DPA, the location should be discussed by Volkswagen's Supervisory Board after Easter, and the decision should be made in November.
