Main project for bypass around Vršac presented

The Minister of Infrastructure, Milutin Mrkonjić, and the Mayor of Vršac, Čedomir Živković, signed the Protocol on construction of the bypass around Vršac yesterday (July 15, 2009).

Mrkonjić was present at the presentation of the main project for the bypass and the elaborate on land expropriation in Vršac, which were ordered by the Ministry of Infrastructure and designed, for 22m RSD, by the Institute for Transportation and Roads CIP.

Public company "Putevi Srbije" provided 28.8m RSD for the elaboration of the general project, justification study, preliminary project and other necessary documents, while 6m RSD were set aside for the Plan for detailed regulation.

According to the words of Živkovića, road traffic in Vršac has reached the level that can not be satisfied by the existing capacities, so that it becomes an obstacle to further development.

- Entire transit transport goes through the city and it has negative influence on security, preservation of cultural-historical monuments, as well as on healthy environment - said he.

Živković added that "the bypass was in the pipeline back in 1995, and its construction will positively affect the quality of life of the citizens and economic development".

According to expert estimates, 15m RSD are needed for expropriation of the land for bypass, while the construction works, according to CIP, will cost about 13.5m EUR.

The bypass may be finished in two years, but realization of the project depends on financial capabilities.
