MRKONJIĆ: Repayment of debts to road maintenance companies commenced

The Minister of Infrastructure of Serbia, Milutin Mrkonjić, said on Friday (July 10, 2009) that the state had started repayment of 21.5 billion RSD worth of debts to road maintenance companies.

He said at the press conference that he had considered that problem "solved" because the Government of Serbia had adopted three laws on loans for repayment of debts, two of which had already been adopted and put in effect, while the third contract worth about 60m EUR (5.6 billion RSD) should be ratified on Monday.

- The repayment has started, and it is possible that there will be certain technical problems - said Mrkonjić.

The road maintenance companies have accepted that the state reprogrammes remaining 8.5 billion RSD worth of debts from the previous four years for the next four years.

- The road maintenance companies will get the money with the foreign clause depending on the value of the exchange rate of Dinar, which means that they will not lose anything - Mrkonjić pointed out.
