– Although today is April 1, this is no April Fool's joke. The Corridors of Serbia inform the public that the asphalt paving in Grdelica Gorge is complete. We only have to finish the construction of the gallery on slope 2 and equipping the tunnel and that section of the new motorway going through Grdelica Gorge will be ready for traffic, Senic said.
He said that the construction of the highway was the most challenging building operation of the century in Serbia. He reminded that this highway section was 26.3 km long and had 33 bridges, 9 large and dozens of smaller retaining walls and it also included river regulation section more than 4 km in length.
This highway section contains Predejane and Vladicin Han interchanges as well as two large tunnels out of which Manajle tunnel is currently the longest tunnel in Serbia.
Danijel Maljenovic, contractor at Trace Group Hold which performs construction work on the 5 km-long highway section from Predejane tunnel to Caricina Dolina said that the asphalt paving was finished on the last day of March and that the final works on repairing the slope and the retaining wall M2 were in progress.
He added that at the moment they were finishing setting up horizontal traffic signalization and guard rails and that they were expecting all works to be completed until mid-April so that the section could be handed over to the investor by the end of the month.
