Construction of Belgrade’s aquarium underneath Tašmajdan to start in October 2005


Construction of Belgrade’s aquarium in Tašmajdan’s caves will most probably start in October 2005. The first guests will be able to see aquarium at the end of 2006, because it will take at least 10 months for sea animals to get used to this space. There will be over 200 different species of fish, crabs, corals, seashells, octopuses on some 1,500 cubic meters. The initiative was given by Zoran Lilić, director for company for underwater research Viridijan. The aquarium will be built in two phases. After the first phase, there will be aquarium 700 cubic meters big and the hall for lectures of all faculties of natural sciences.
This is very expensive facility. The aquarium in Budapest cost 10 million USD, whereas the one in Genova cost 70 million USD.
