Construction of Belgrade-Sarajevo highway to begin in June?

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic talked today to the investor, the project designer and the contractor for the future Belgrade-Sarajevo highway about the schedule and the beginning of works on the construction of the section through Serbia, from Sremska Raca to Kuzmin, which is planned for this June.

– The construction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway is important not just for Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but for the entire region. Our strategic goal is connecting with the region, which, in addition to the economic and the political stability and infrastructural development, also means a better life for our citizens. I expect you all to be fully dedicated to preparing the necessary documentation and starting the works on the Sremska Raca-Kuzmin section in June, in the presence of three presidents, Aleksandar Vucic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Milorad Dodik – Mihajlovic said.

The minister's cabinet says that the commercial contract for the preparation of detailed regulation plan, planning and construction of the sections of the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway was signed between the Government of Serbia, the Roads of Serbia and the Turkish company Tasyapi on December 19, 2018.

The Sremska Raca-Kuzmin section is around 17 kilometers long, and the works are worth around EUR 220 million, whereas the Pozega-Kotroman section is around 60 kilometers long. The works are worth around EUR 830 million.

With the construction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway, Serbia will get an opportunity to connect with the European Corridor V, which connects Hungary, Croatia and B&H, as well as B&H with Corridors X and XI inside Serbia, that is, the Belgrade-Sid highway and the traffic route through Pozega, the press release says.

The meeting was attended by Zoran Drobnjak, the director of the Roads of Serbia, which is the investor of the project, Milutin Ignjatovic, the director of the Institute of Transportation CIP, and a representative of Tasyapi, the contractor.
