Belgrade company WIG increases business by 15% – Demand for automated system for preparation of saline solutions in global market

The eKapija portal has opened the contest for the best investment in 2018 – Aurea 2019. In anticipation of the new winners, we have visited the companies shortlisted last year to see how far they've come in their business development.

The Belgrade-based company WIG, an Aurea 2018 nominee, developed an automatized system for the preparation of saline solutions for an efficient filling of oil wells following the exploitation in 2017. Since December 2017, the facility has been operating at full capacity.

This system solves one of the extremely complex problems of storing contaminated layer water in oil and gas exploitation, and the company got the social usefulness award for this system.

The solutions available in Serbia so far have usually been based on manual labor and laboratory analyses, whereas the implementation of the automatized facility for the preparation of the saline solution designed by the Belgrade-based company enables a ten time more efficient process of preparation, as well as the control and the management of the entire process, compared to the processes available so far, both in quantities and in reducing the time needed to carry them out.

The system was made in response to the needs of the leading producer of oil and gas in Serbia and has had a strong economic and environmental effect.

According to WIG’s findings, the principle at the basis of the development of the automatized facility for industrial preparation of saline solutions might be implemented in other industries as well – for the removal of snow and ice from the roads, the softening of water, cooling (steel and other metals), in the chemical industry etc. Their business has grown by 15% in the past year, as they told our portal, and we asked WIG how much interest there is for the system in Serbia and abroad.

(The awarding of the social usefulness recognition) As the company says for eKapija, the system has not yet found application in other fields, and the interest in other countries is not waning.

– There's only one client for this kind of equipment in Serbia, and that is NIS GPN. In the world market, there is a great need for this, but we don't have enough opportunities or financial strength to promote our product. In other countries, they add, there is a great demand and interest in technically similar systems of preparation of saline solutions in raw oil extraction processes.

Let us remind that there are several thousand oil wells in Serbia and that there’s a great need for them to be closed properly following the exploitation, so that they would not collapse.

Since December 2017, the facility has been operating at full capacity, and as this is an original technological solution, modern technological equipment and adequate monitoring provide a basis for the implementation of the process on a larger number of oil wells, both in Serbia and abroad.

As for the plans for the upcoming period, WIG says that one of the goals is for them to meet the demands of the local market, but also of the surrounding countries' markets, for equipment and services from the Engineering Contracting domain (engineering, procurement and construction – EPC).

– We hope that this is the best way for us to promote ourselves in other markets as well – they say and add that one of the plans is to increase the revenues by 20%.
