American 'Comico' intends to build oil refinery in Smederevo

American company 'Comico' is interested in building a new oil refinery in Smederevo, Petar Škundrić, Serbian Minister of Energy, stated yesterday (20/06/2009).

At the Socialist Party Board Meeting, he said that the Mayor of Smederevo has signed protocol on that investment with the American company.

- Preparations of legal frame and considerations of actual possibilities for realization of this project, in accordance with (energy) strategy of Serbia and Russian federation, are in progress - Škundrić said.

- NIS is a priority to us, which is still a Serbian company on whose success normal functioning of many segments depends on, as well as Serbian budget status. We are maximally interested in successful work and reconstruction of NIS, but we are also interested in further development of oil refinery in Serbia. The Government and the Ministry of Energy will take all necessary measures towards satisfying interests of Serbia, the Minister added.

According to the previous statements for media, 'Comico Oil' is interested to build oil refinery in Semderovo in the following three years, where they would invest 250 million Euros. Crude oil would be shipped form Nigeria, and 300 to 500 Serbian workers would be employed.
