"Telekom Srbija" and "Media Works" obtained licenses for fixed wireless access


Republic Telecommunications Agency (RATEL) has granted two licenses for fixed wireless access (FWA) for public telecommunication network and services in frequency range 411,875-418,125/421,875-428,125 MHz for the territory of Republic of Serbia.
"Telekom Srbija" and "Media Works" won at recently finished public competition and paid 540,000 EUR to the budget of Republic of Serbia in order to be able to start using their licenses.
Licenses are issued on period of 10 years, and companies that obtained licenses should start providing commercial services in six months at the latest.
- According to the terms of the competition, "Telekom Srbija" and "Media Works" must cover minimum 20% of settlements in the regions of Jablanica, Pčinj, Raška, Pirot and Zlatibor during the first year of operations, and they also have to start providing services in minimum 40% of settlements in these five regions within the next 2.5 years. That will, primarily, solve the problem of telephone connections, and the citizens of these regions will gain access to Internet of 128/64 kb/s - said Dr. Milan Janković, the Executive Director of RATEL.
The licenses were handed by Dr. Milan Janković to Vladimir Lučić, the CEO of the Directorate for Commercial Affairs in "Telekom Srbija", and Slobodan Đinović, the CEO of "Media Works", in the premises of the Republic Telecommunications Agency, in the presence of Jasna Matić, the Minister of Telecommunications and IT Society.
