Equipping of new industrial zone in Smederevo to start in 2010 - parcels at 3,4 ha for future investors

- City of Smederevo will finish all necessary projects for future industrial zone at 80 ha prior to the end of year 2009, and its infrastructural equipping will start already at the beginning of the next year - Nenad Krčum, the CEO of the Directorate for Development of City of Smederevo, told "eKapija" at the Summer School of City Planning.

- According to the land-utilization plan, the zone will comprise up to 22 parcels/modules, and size of these modules will range between 2.7 and 3.4 ha, with the possibility of expansion. Also, it will be possible for several "tenants" to be under the same roof. Production contents will occupy the surface of 750,000 square meters, while 30,000 square meters are reserved for service-catering contents - Krčum explained.

Future zone will stretch alonside the Danube, until the Kovin bridge, and it will be situated behind the gas pipeline that connects Vojvodina and Serbia, which gives special importance to that location. The land is owned by the state, as well as by company "U.S. Steel", which got it after the privatization procedure.

According to the plan, conditions for development of light processing industry (metals, electronics, textile production, etc.) should be created in that location, which means that technological and environmental standards will be high.

According to the words of Krčun, elaboration of previous projects was financed by NIP, while the Directorate hopes that that fund will also provide money for realization of the projects.

Smederevo currently has one industrial zone with parcels at 10 to 12 acres.
