Negotiations with Chinese on construction of hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap 3"

- The Ministry of Energy of Serbia has started preliminary talks with Chinese companies on construction of hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap 3" - people from that ministry told Beta agency today (June 11, 2009).

The State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy of Serbia, Dušan Mrakić, said previously, at the meeting dedicated to investments in the power supply system of Serbia, which was organized by newspaper "Danas", that it was reversible hydroelectric power plant of about 2,000 MW.

- We have started the talks and we expect that the audit of the feasibility study on construction of that hydroelectric power plant will be completed soon - said he.

Mrakić announced that strategic partner for construction of "Đerdap 3" could be found either at the end of year 2009 or at the the beginning of the next year.

He reminded that the feasibility study for that project had been elaborated ten years before.

According to the data from the website of Hydroelectric Power Plant "Đerdap", future hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap 3" will serve to turn less valuable, basic energy into high-quality, peak energy.

That should be a reversible, pumping-accumulation unit that will be operating as an emergency power plant.

Construction will, probably, comprise four phases. In the first phase, hydroelectric power plant would have the power of 600 MW and it would be producing 2 billion kWh per year. Following the completion of all phases, it should have the power of 2,400 MW and it should be producing 7.6 billion kWh.

It is said on website http://www.djerdap.co.rs/ that "Đerdap 3" should be built on the Danube, in locations Pesač, Brodica and Željeznički Potok.

Hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap 1" was put in operation in 1970, it has total power of 1,026 MW, while average annual production amounts to 5.65 billion kWh of electric power.

The second joing Serbian-Romanian hydroelectric power plant on the Danube, "Đerdap 2", was put in operation in 1985 and has the power of 270 MW.
