Agreement made between company IBM and Institute of Physics - development of supercomputing in Serbia

- The Institute of Physics of Serbia and IT company IBM signed the agreement today (June 9, 2009) on cooperation in development of supercomputing in Serbia - IBM announced.

- Partnership relation between the Institute of Physics, the coordinator of national supercomputing initiative "Plavi Dunav", and company IBM Srbija is the result of the obvious need for establishment of cooperation in realization of crucial research, development and educational aspects of this national initiative - it is stated in the announcement.

The Agreement was signed by the CEO of the Institute of Physics, Dragan S. Popović, and the CEO of IBM Srbija, Miloš Đurković.

Supercomputers have much larger capacity than personal computers and they are used for complex tasks, such as scientific research and simulations of climatic models.

Serbia was admitted into the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) at the end of the last year. PRACE has 18 members: France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Great Britain, Austria, Finland, Greece, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Cyprus, Ireland, Serbia and Turkey.
