Hrvatska Elektroprivreda seeking partners for development of RES projects

Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) is looking into the possibility of development and execution of renewable energy source (RES) projects in Croatia and the integration of finished projects or projects in the later stages of development, related to RES, in their production portfolio, says the company's public call for the submission of statements of interest.

HEP is looking for interested partners for the development and sale of RES projects in the territory of the Republic of Croatia, namely, local self-government units (towns and municipalities) interested in the construction of solar power plants, which will give their contribution to the development and execution of the projects through a joint preparation of the spatial-planning documentation for projects of solar power plants, of more than 100,000 m2, and partners (legal or natural persons).

The call pertains to partners interested in: the sale of projects of non-integrated solar power plants under development, of 2 MW and more; the sale of projects of wind farms under development; the sale of projects of wind farms in operation; the sale of projects of hydro power plants in operation, of 1 MW and more; and the sale of projects of hydro power plants in operation, of 1 MW and more.

HEP invites all interested parties to send letters of intent by December 31, 2019. HEP plans to invest an average of HRK 1 billion (around EUR 135 million) a year in hydro power plants and other renewable energy sources, which will enable the increase of the share of RES from 35% to 50% by 2030, HEP announced in December 2018.

The company plans to achieve this goal through the revitalization, that is, by increasing the power and the production of the existing hydro power plants, the construction of new ones and investments in other renewable energy sources, HEP announced.

HEP plans to invest a total of HRK 3.6 billion (around EUR 487 million) in the revitalization of HPPs. Of this amount, so far, around HRK 1.4 billion (around EUR 189.4 million) has been invested, and around HRK 2.2 billion (around EUR 297.6 million) more will be invested by the completion of the revitalization in 2028. The result of this investment cycle will be 160 MW of additional power at HPPs, which matches the power of a large HPP that would be HEP's sixth biggest HPP, the press release says.
