Lunar eclipse to take place on January 20

A full lunar eclipse will be visible from the western hemisphere on Sunday, January 20.

The phenomenon of a “super blood wolf Moon”, making the Earth’s natural satellite appear bigger and more glowing than usual, will be visible from Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and the Arctic.

The full eclipse means that the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the satellite.

The Moon appears “bloody”, that is, dark-red, when the Earth casts a shadow on it. The so-called super Moon phenomenon occurs when the satellite is closest to the Earth. The wolf Moon is a phenomenon which occurs in January and has been named so by Native American tribes.

Around 5 pm local time (Serbia), the Moon should turn dark-red, and its color may vary depending on the weather. The eclipse will last through the afternoon of Monday, January 21.

This will be the last full lunar eclipse until 2021.
