Public call for disassembly of Old Sava Bridge to open in summer or autumn

Belgrade City Architect Milutin Folic has stated that it is time to “retire” the Old Sava Bridge.

Folic said on TV Prva that the bridge would be disassembled and moved between the New Belgrade Block 44 and Ada Ciganlija, where it will be repurposed as a bridge for cyclists and pedestrians.

– The bridge doesn’t meet its purpose in terms of the capacity and the quality – Folic said.

As for the deadlines, Folic says that the disassembly will begin in the summer or the autumn with a public call.

It will happen once the tracks are laid down on the Ada Bridge, providing an alternative tram route.

The contest for the new bridge closed last year. The design features two lanes in each direction, tram tracks, a bicycle lane and a pedestrian lane, Folic says and adds that the bridge will even feature lookouts.
