Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic said that the city might earn over EUR 30 million during the New Year’s holidays.

– The Belgrade Winter event began on December 1 and will last through the end of January. In these two months, around 200 free programs will be organized, primarily aimed at the youngest audience. The citizens are primarily focused on December 30 and 31 and January 1 – Vesic said on RTS.

He said that there had been 974,182 tourists in Belgrade in the first nine months of 2018 and that they had had 2,093,899 overnight stays, which is 12% and 14% more, respectively, compared to 2017, and added that the foreign exchange inflow had increased by 13%.

– Last year, we earned nearly EUR 800 million from tourism, and if we want to attract tourists, we need to invest in events such as these – Vesic said.

He said that the largest number of tourists came from Turkey, followed by China, Germany, Greece and Croatia, and that the most numerous guests during the holidays were those from the region.

Talking about the amount of RSD 185 million approved to the City of Belgrade by the Republic of Serbia from the current budget reserves, Vesic said that it was more than natural, as Belgrade accounts for 40% of the GDP.

– The funds will be put into a partial coverage of the costs of the restoration of 70 facades in the center of Zemun. The government has helped us by providing RSD 185 million, and the City of Belgrade will secure around a hundred million. Furthermore, the city will restore around 80 facades more on its own. In the past three years, we have restored over 300 facades in Belgrade – Vesic said.
