Zemun-based "Ikarbus" delivered the first 5 out of total of 35 gas-powered city buses to Italian transportation company "Bredamenaribus" yesterday (May 11, 2009).
The rest of the shipment of low-floor air-conditioned buses, equipped with Euro 6 engines, will be in the streets of Bari, Bologna and Bergam by the end of the month. As Srećko Nijemčević, the Director General of "Ikarbus", announced on that occasion, the contract on production of another 75 buses for Italian market, which should be delivered by the end of October, is expected to be signed very soon.
- By manufacturing up-to-date buses, we proved that we can operate in the Western European market. The first shipment of buses was made of imported components, but we already agreed that the future buses should have 40% of parts made in Serbia. Price of these buses is significantly higher than the price of classical diesel buses. It amounts to about 200,000 EUR per bus, but the invested money is returned in three years, while the environmental aspect represents an immeasureable gain – Nijemčević pointed out.
According to Aleksandar Imidejev, the Deputy Director of "Ikarbus" and the representative of the majority owner from Russia, that company proves its European prospects by manufacturing gas-powered buses. He expects similar buses to appear in the streets of Belgrade and other cities in our country.
