Serbia and Iran signed Agreement on economic cooperation – Serbia to export meat

- The Minister of Economy and Regional Development of Serbia, Mlađan Dinkić, and the Minister of Trade of Iran, Sejed Masud Mirkazemi, signed the Protocol of the joint mixed committee on economic cooperation between the two countries on May 8th – the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development announced.

- The aim of the Protocol is to improve the trade cooperation with Iran. We should have in mind that Iranian market with 82m people is huge and that we used to register over 1 billion USD worth of export to Iran – said Dinkić.

He confirmed that the negotiations about the Contract on free trade had commenced during the stay of Iranian delegation in Belgrade.

- We want to increase the value of our trade, which now amounts to only 50m USD, and Iranian Minister of Trade expressed hope that Serbia would soon participate with, at least, 1% in Iran’s overall exchange of goods, which would amount to about 1.5 billion USD on annual basis – said Dinkić.

He announced that the representatives of the ministries of economy and energy and Pančevo-based "Petrohemija" would visit Iranian National Petrochemical Company in Tehran to talk about possible partnership between the two companies. According to the words of Dinkić, the talks in Tehran will be focused on the supply of primary gasoline to "Petrohemija" in Pančevo, which represents an acute problem for the locals. According to the announcement, the possibility of use of Iranian capacities for storing Serbian cereals for Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Near East will be taken in consideration, as well as the possibility that Serbian companies take part in construction of silos, cold storage plants and storage spaces.

The Agreement on cooperation in field of veterinary medicine was also signed today, which enabled export of Serbia’s meat to Iran.

During the stay in Belgrade, Iranian delegation expressed interest in Serbian agricultural products, import of meat from Serbia and investments in slaughterhouse industry.
