The transfer airport tax for the passengers who use the services of air transportation company "Jat Airways" will be reduced from 16.5 to 4 EUR on June 1st.
"Jat" will be paying that reduced amount to Belgrade-based airport "Nikola Tesla", which is in accordance with the agreement that was made between the representatives of "Jat" and the airport and the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Božidar Đelić, in May 2008.
On that occasion they agreed to abolish the transfer tax in amount of 16.5 EUR and introduce the security tax of 4.5 EUR per passenger, but "the airport failed to respect that agreement even one year later”.
The company’s management added that they had been trying to prove to the authorized ministry and the airport’s management that the transfer taxes of 16.5 EUR were obstructing the development of air transportation in Serbia and the airport itself as the transit center since it had the most expensive taxes in Europe.
Transfer taxes in Europe range between 2.5 and 12 EUR, while Italy has no such taxes at all. Transfer tax in Zagreb amounts to 7 EUR, it costs 2.5 EUR in Podgorica and Tivat, while its amount in Sarajevo is 9 EUR. Transfer tax at the airport in Skopje amounts to 4 EUR, 3.3 EUR in Ljubljana, 7.31 EUR in Vienna, 7 EUR in Prague, while that tax is not collected in Frankfurt and London.
