The 2-track high-speed railway to Budapest, designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h, is one of the biggest railway construction sites in Europe. Chinese partners are executing the sections from Belgrade to Zemun and from Zemun to Stara Pazova, whereas the section from Stara Pazova to Novi Sad is being executed by Russian Railways.
Tunnels through Fruska Gora, with tubes of 1.1 kilometers, are a special construction endeavor. Half a kilometer has so far been completed, as well as a larger part of the viaduct toward Novi Sad.
– There's a range of issues there, as the terrain is complicated. It stretches along the Danube, but there are issues related to the geology of the terrain that we are solving together with Russian experts. Around 40% of the contracted works have been completed and we are slightly ahead of the schedule – says Mansurbek Sultanov of RZD International.
The Russian company RZD International uses local companies as the main subcontractors. As they say, they all need time to fit into the standards, but this allows Serbian companies to acquire licenses enabling them to apply for similar projects abroad. In addition to the works on the Belgrade-Novi Sad railway, the Russians are considering the continuation of the cooperation with Serbian railway authorities.
– We are talking about the Bar railway and the dispatch center, for which the project documentation has already been prepared. As for the continuation of the Bar railway project, the talks have already started – Sultanov says.
The dispatch center of the Serbian Railways is needed for the development of transport. The Russians can build it with the implementation of new control technologies, RZD International says. It will increase the traffic capacity of the railways, reduce the operating costs and increase the safety of transport on the Serbian railway system.
eKapija recently wrote in detail about the projects of this Russian company in Serbia in an interview with Sergey Alexeyevich Pavlov, General Director of RZD International.
