Pristina implements new measure – Fee of 100% on all products from Serbia and B&H

The temporary institutions in Pristina have implemented a new fee of 100% on all products from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. As said, the measure was implemented “to the end of strengthening the domestic production, economy and Kosovo's statehood”.

The decision followed the proposition of Minister of Trade Endrit Shala, who also invited domestic producers “to focus on quality”, and asked the traders to look into new markets for cooperation. Shala reminded on Facebook that domestic producers faced many barriers in Serbia and that their products were not present in the Serbian market.

– The measure of 100% for Serbia begins today. Also, the Government obligates the Ministry of Trade and Industry and all relevant institutions to remove and stop the potential import of all products which do not pertain and are in violation of the official and constitutional name of the Republic of Kosovo – Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj wrote in a Facebook post.

He emphasized that it still didn't pertain to international brands produced in Serbia.

Haradinaj's deputy Enver Hoxhaj tweeted that the decision was adopted “to defend our vital interests”.

– Serbia is continuing its aggressive campaign against Kosovo in the international stage. It is also undermining the normalization process. To defend our vital interest, Government of Kosovo has decided today to increase the customs tariff to 100%. Further measures to be announced soon! – Hoxhaj tweeted.

The Government of Kosovo previously imposed the customs rate of 10% on products from Serbia and B&H to protect their local market, but also for, as they said, Serbia's destructive behavior toward Kosovo. This decision was harshly criticized by the EU and other international representations with the argument that Kosovo thereby violated the CEFTA agreement.
