DROBNJAK: We will request an increase in road toll, trucks to be charged on throughways as well

The director of the PE Roads of Serbia, Zoran Drobnjak, stated that he would ask the government again to increase the highway toll by 10% but also to have vehicles over 7.5 tons charged on throughways as well.

– Trucks have been avoiding toll collection on highways, so let them pay at throughways, which also raises traffic safety – Drobnjak said on TV Prva.

He announced that, in March or April 2019, panels with speed-detection cameras would be installed on highways and that they would also contain important information for drivers.

– The software calculates the average speed of the vehicle, the information is sent to the police and they then send it to the home address – Drobnjak said.

According to him, this would correct the flaws on the previous system, where the speed is measured at the toll booth, allowing drivers to speed and then wait a while until the next ramp, thereby “adjusting” the average speed.

He added that foreign citizens would be given speeding tickets at toll booths and that they would be charged immediately.
