Accounts of 59,466 companies frozen – debt of 234 billion RSD

The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia, Radovan Jelašić, said yesterday (April 14, 2009) that the accounts of 59,446 companies in Serbia had been frozen prior to April 10, as well as that the total amount of the frozen funds was 234 billion RSD.
He said at the meeting of the Parliament’s Board of Finance that, according to the official data, the number of companies whose accounts had been frozen prior to February 2009 had amounted to 57,000. That means that the accounts of another 2,500 companies have been frozen over the last 45 days. The Governor also said that the accounts of more than 50% of the companies had been frozen for more than two years.
He pointed out that the Tax Administration and courts had initiated majority of freezings.
Jelašić specified that there were 400 companies with frozen accounts worth over 10,000 RSD. According to the data from February, 1.1% of insolvent commercial subjects are large and mid-sized enterprises, while small enterprises and entrepreneurs represent 85.7% of these subjects.
