Commencement of sale of world’s cheapest automobile "tata nano"

The sale of the world’s cheapest automobile “tata nano”, which became popular because of its low price even before it appeared in the market, started yesterday in India (April 9, 2009).

The basic variant of the automobile, which is produced by Indian company "Tata motors", costs approximately 2,000 USD, without taxes and fees. The luxury variant of this vehicle will cost about 3,700 USD.

This automobile is a small city vehicle, around 3 meters long and with the engine of 624 cc. The vehicle is produced in the factory in city of Pantnagar, in the north of India.

Factory "Tata motors" in Pantnagar has the annual production capacity of 50,000-60,000 vehicles, but the opening of new unit is in the pipeline, which will increase the production capacity to 250,000 "nano" vehicles a year.

Due to huge interest of the buyers in India, the automobile will be first sold in 100,000 copies to the buyers who applied earlier and whose names will be randomly selected by a computer.
