Starting March 30th, 2009, "Amstel" beer, a brand of "Heineken Group", is being produced in Serbia, and there is no need for import of that beer any more.
- The manufacturer of that beer is Novi Sad-based brewer "MB", which we bought last year – Fransois Xavier Mahot, the Director General of the United Serbian Breweries, the result of merger of Dutch “Heineken” and Turkish”Effes”, said today (April 7th, 2009) at the press conference.
As he reminded, "Heineken" is 100% owner of the brewer in Novi Sad and the majority owner of the brewer in Zaječar.
Mr. Mahot said that his company had invested 15m EUR in Serbia in 2008, primarily in production equipment, and that total amount of projected investments in standardization of production was 50m EUR.
Production of local brands, such as "Pils Plus", will be maintained, while the consumers with less money will be able to buy a quality beer at favorable price – Zaječarsko beer.
"Amstel" beer produced in Serbia will also be sold in the market of Montenegro in disposable glass packaging of 0.33 l, exchangeable bottles of 0.5 l and tin cans, while catering facilities will be selling it as draft beer.
"Amstel" is the best-selling beer in Greece, and it is also produced in Romania and Bulgaria.
