"Ericsson" has share of 80% in mobile networks in Serbia

- "Ericsson", the manufacturer of network equipment, has the share of 80% in Serbian mobile telecommunications market – the Director General of “Ericsson” for Serbia and Montenegro, Bo Andersson, said today (April 1st, 2009).

Andersson said to the press that the share of that company in the fixed telecommunications market was not that big and that he hoped that it could be increased once the fixed telephony market in Serbia was liberalized.

He said that "Ericsson" planned to take part in the development of infrastructure for introduction of unique number for emergency situations – 112, as well as in the development of networks for electronic government services and information systems in health care sector.

When it comes to the mobile communications market, "Ericsson" plans to keep its share in Serbia – said Andersson and added that the company had the share of about 80% during the previous two years.

Andersson said that "Ericsson" did not calculate financial results for each country separately, and that was the reason why he could not present the information on the incomes and profit of that company in Serbia.

According to the data presented by Andersson, "Ericsson" has 101 employees in Serbia, 96% of whom are local population, and it cooperates with 50 to 100 local subcontractors.

"Ericsson" invites network operators to return the equipment they want to reject in order to be recycled, but nobody from Serbia has submitted such request to the date.

According to Andersson’s estimates, the reason for that is the fact that the replacement of telecommunication equipment has never happened in Serbia before.

As he explained, 98% of the rejected equipment is recycled, while only 2% is disposed as waste.
