Tender for two CDMA licenses by the end of next week

- The tender for two licenses for fixed wireless telephony and internet CDMA
will be announced next week – said Milan Janković, the Executive Director of
the Republic Telecommunications Agency of Serbia (Ratel).
- It is expected that the public tender will be published in “Official
Bulletin”, “Politika” and “Financial Times” next week – said Janković.
He specified that the licenses would be issued for national coverage and that,
according to the plan, CDMA should be first introduced in sparsely populated rural
areas that lack telephone connections (during the first six months following
the issuing of the licenses), and then in some other parts of Serbia that have
no telephone connections.
According to some earlier announcements, the people in Ratel expect that the
licenses for introduction of CDMA technology, which is suitable for rural areas
without fixed telephony, will be issued prior to the beginning of summer.
Liberalization of the fixed telephony is in the pipeline, designing of the Regulations governing the open competition for new operators is underway, while the public invitation could be announced in June.
