Hemofarm manufactures 60% of Stada concern’s products – New investments in Serbia announced

CEO of Hemofarm, Ronald Seeliger, said that 60% of the products of Germany’s Stada, within whose system the company operates, is manufactured at Hemofarm’s facilities.

– It’s a big thing when a company from a small Eastern European country is such an important segment in the operations of the international concern, one of the biggest European producers of generic drugs. It is our obligation to justify that trust – Seeliger said in his interview with Vecernje Novosti.

He said that Stada had invested around EUR 300 million in Hemofarm since 2006 and that the company had become Stada’s regional center for 13 countries of Central and Eastern Europe, eight of which are EU members.

According to him, Stada’s investments in Hemofarm will continue, and new workers will also be needed.

– I don’t want to disclose the details for now, as the projects and the plans are still being prepared, but I’m convinced that we will be able to come out with more details in about a year – Seeliger said.

He pointed out that local producers of drugs were in an unfair position compared to importers, because the VAT on the import of drugs is 10%, whereas the VAT on the import of ingredients for the production of drugs is 20%.

– It’s important for the state to support the local industry, as it pays off – Seeliger said and added that “by supporting local producers and local research departments, the state supports itself”.

He reminded that Hemofarm was the biggest local producer of medicaments and one of the biggest exporters. Last year, 5.5 billion tablets were produced in the company’s facilities, which is a new record.

Seeliger invites German business people to choose Serbia as the destination to invest in.

– I recommend them to see firsthand how good the country is for doing business. I have been here for over seven years and I believe that Serbia is good not just for doing business, but for living as well – said CEO of Hemofarm and Vice President of Stada Group.
