The British company Shazam, known for its popular music recognition app, has been sold to Apple for USD 400 million.

The purchase was announced back in December 2017.

However, European regulators started an investigation this April looking into whether the acquisition could provide Apple Music with unfair advantage.

In early September, the commission approved the purchase.

As Apple announced, one of the results of the takeover will be the removal of ads from the Shazam app.

As specialized sites report, one of the main reasons for the purchase might be that Apple needs to keep up with the competition, as Google Pixel smartphones are capable of recognizing songs without any special input from the user.

Furthermore, the fact that Shazam is capable of recognizing over 20 million songs is of great importance to Apple.
