(Training in Japan) The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Serbia and with the support of the Institute for Public Health “Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut” is organizing a creative contest for the best slogan and poster aiming to raise awareness of early breast cancer detection in the Republic of Serbia.

The contest is split into two categories – for high school students and for adults over 18. The topic is the raising of awareness of the importance of screening and early detection of this dangerous disease.

Citizens may send their creative propositions by October 20, 2018, at konkurs.poster@gmail.com (for the poster) and slogan.konkurs@gmail.com (for the slogan).

The contest will be open to all, regardless of their profession. Additional information can be found on the Facebook page of Pink Ribbon Serbia.

Japan Cancer Society

Each October, the Japan Cancer Society is organizing an event called Pink Ribbon Festival in Japan, one of the activities promoting the prevention of breast cancer. This event has been held since 2003. The Japan Cancer Society received over 700 propositions for posters and 15,000 potential slogans last year alone.

The event consists of three parts: a forum, a public walk and a creative contest. The Japanese Cancer Society works on raising awareness of this disease, on motivating citizens to have screenings and on supporting patients.

The life expectancy in Japan, when it comes to this dangerous disease, is 10 years, but if cancer is detected at an early stage, around 90% women can be cured. However, if discovered late, the survival rate drops to 15%. Regular mammograms are crucial to early breast cancer detection. Along with raising public awareness, the number of women in Serbia for whom carcinoma is detected at an early stage could increase as well, the press release says.
