"Punto got four wheels" – commencement of assembling of new automobiles in"Zastava"

Italian-Serbian joint venture "Fiat automobili Srbija" started assembling its first automobile on Monday (March 23, 2009): "punto 188", serial no. 7,000,001, has finally started to get “arms and legs”!

As “Novosti” finds out, the first 30 automobiles may be finished already in the second shift on Wednesday or in the morning hours on Thursday.

In addition to production of two new models, the Contract on strategic partnership between “Fiat” and Serbia also anticipates production of certain number of “punto” vehicles. About 30 bodies of that model were assembled, painted and lacquered during the last week, while the assembling process in "Montaža" started on Monday. Italian and "Zastava’s" experts have already provided the certificates that are necessary for export of that model, but, due to high demand in our market, the export is, most probably, not going to happen this year.

According to the latest statement of Giovanni De Filipis, the Director General of factory “Fiat Srbija”, about 2,000 automobiles will be manufactured prior to the beginning of May.
