Production of tires in Ruma to double – Sweden's Treleborg to open new facility in the first half of 2019

Sweden's Treleborg, which took over the factory for the production of pneumatics for agricultural and industrial vehicles from the Czech Mitas two years ago, is completing the construction of a new facility within the factory in Ruma. The investment worth over EUR 23 million comprises a hall and equipment on 24,500 square meters and storage space of 10,000 square meters. As the director, Djordje Jeftic, says, there will be a total of 600 workers at the plant by the end of the year, as planned by the new owner.

Since it first started producing tractor tires, the Ruma plant has been persevering in the market for a full 37 years. The former leader in the production of pneumatics in the former Yugoslavia has survived all the transitions, privatizations and crises and managed to keep the tradition of its production.

– Although owners kept changing in all those years, the plant didn't stop working. Each company successively invested in machines and equipment in order to maintain product quality and keep the market – Jeftic says.

Although all those owners had the same plan for expanding the production, it is only Treleborg that has managed to do so after nearly a decade, having begun the construction of the hall in May 2017. The completion and the opening are expected in the first half of 2019.

– Around 200 workers will be employed at the new production facility. In line with the company's plan, 45 workers should be employed this year, then 85 next year and the rest in 2020 – Jeftic says and adds that the job contest is always open.

With the construction of the new facility of the company, which exports 85% of its products to the EU, the exporting will increase as well. The plant will remain the leading exporter in Srem. Last year, the exports amounted to around EUR 38.2 million. The production will nearly double, which will considerably increase the export, but also widen the range of products.

– This year we started producing pneumatics used in forestry. Those tires weigh up to 600 kilograms. We plan to expand our radial and diagonal programs, while maintaining the quality – Jeftic emphasizes.
