- Cypriot "Mageo" has closed textile unit “Clothing” in Leskovac, which had 268 workers, for an indefinite period – said Dragiša Lazić, the Manager of the company.

- The boss said that the production must be discontinued for a month or two, and he promised he would return, but I can not claim with certainty that the things will happen that way – said Lazić.

Prior to March 20th, the unit had been working until late, and certain number of machines was moved to Romania on Saturday morning, while neighboring factory “Zevelon”, which had been bought earlier by Cypriot Kostas Georgiu, got the rest of them.

Discontinuation of production and relocation of machines took place without previous announcement, and the workers learnt of that by chance.

Average salary in "Clothing", which used to produce light ready-made clothing for Western Europe, amounted to about 16,000 RSD.

The company’s management said that Georgiju had been unsatisfied with low productivity of employees and large number of sick leaves, while the workers complained about poor working conditions and the owner’s attitude towards them.

Production in "Clothing" commenced in January 2008, and Georgiju, who also owns textile factories in Romania, promised jobs for 3,000 people.
